Memoryscapes
A lasting memento of a special time or place
One of the most popular subjects for murals I have been asked to paint is trompe l'oeil windows. Usually with a view of a favourite place or a dream destination, they often incorporate objects with special symbolic meaning to the clients. That's where the idea for Memoryscapes came from, as a unique way to commemorate a special occasion, such as a wedding or anniversary. Unlike a photo, they are a compilation of all the memories that made the day or time unique.
An Unforgettable Summer
The couple who commissioned this painting had rented a harbourside cottage for the summer and wanted a lasting memento of their stay.

It shows the actual view from their kitchen window, adapted to include references to various events of that summer. The objects on the windowsill all have significance to the couple, evoking memories of people, places and pastimes associated with their time there.

Wedding Day Memories
A unique memento of a wedding in a historic building overlooking a bay in Malta.

Much more than a literal view, the painting is a combination of images from the day, references to specific moments and details that have special significance to the bride and groom.
Commissioning a Memoryscape
I work from a combination of your photos, other references and things you tell me about to create your memoryscape. Please note, any photos used must be your own. I can't use professional wedding photos, for example, unless you have written permission from the photographer for me to do so.

Initial discussions can take place by email, sometimes followed by a meeting either by video call or in person.

Once we have agreed on the basic details I will make a sketch of the proposed painting for your approval before work begins, and keep you updated on progress throughout.

Because of the amount of prep work for these paintings, please contact me as far ahead as possible if you need it by a certain date.

Canvasses are finished with painted sides and are strung ready to hang unframed.

Prices are for a painting similar to the ones shown above. Extra amounts of detail (e.g. multiple people, vehicles, buildings) may increase the price, but this will be quoted for at the outset.
